These are the guitars of old "78's" and provide the player with a unique sonic palette without having to deal with the headaches of a vintage guitar. They have been built as close as possible to the vintage designs while including a couple of modern features to enhance player comfort and enjoyment.
These features include a radiused fingerboard for player comfort, an intonated bone saddle and a carbon fiber neck reinforcement system for a stiff and extremely lightweight neck. They are very responsive and can be quite loud when the player digs in. While they are versatile guitars for a wide spectrum of music playing, many prefer them for country blues, rags and other old-time musical styles.
These X braced guitars are the same shape and sizes as the Ladder braced guitars above but braced in a more traditional and very light weight X configuration. This top bracing is designed to produce a more balanced and even response while promoting the upper partials for a complex and sparkling tone. They are all 12 fret dovetail neck joints with slotted or paddle style pegheads and high quality vintage style open tuners. The Parlor and the Concert are 24.9" scales and the Grand Concert has a 25.4" scale.
The X braced FP models are the result of trying to design and build the best modern finger-style guitar I can. They are rich in complexity and sustain, they are very responsive to finger-style playing and the light touch. Though primarily designed as a finger-style guitar, these small to mid sized guitars become even more bold under the flat-pick however they are more well behaved and balanced than some of the larger flat-picking guitars.
The unique shape of the guitar, the large rounded lower bout and high waist, is designed to maximize sound board surface and inside air volume. The shape also makes these guitars seem bigger than they really are, at 13", 14" & 15" they are very comfortable to hold and play, while the shape allows for maximum results from the small size. The guitars are available in three neck/scale configurations. A 12 fret 24.9" scale, a 13 fret 25.4" scale, or the optional multi-scale combination of the two, a popular option with players using alternate tunings. All three of the FP style guitars are built with a generous Venetian style cutaway allowing upneck playing.
